Projector bulb is a bulb which is used in a projector. These are of special make and hence costlier than other ordinary bulbs and so should be given special care while operation and maintenance. The projector manual will have details regarding the type of bulb to be used, service requirements and details pertaining to maintenance. Consumers who are unaware of these often land in trouble by buying the wrong bulb ending up in financial losses.
Projector lamps are not only used for business use but they are also used for personal use in home theaters. There are various projector lamps such as overhead projectors, slide projectors and multimedia projectors. They are reasonably priced so that it can suit everyone pocket. Multimedia projector gives advantage of both audio and visual image quality. Multimedia projectors are better used in conference and thus they suit business use whereas, overhead projector is basically used for personal use; for a small group of people. They require adequate care to avoid replacement cost and enhance the life span of projector bulb. One should also avoid damage to projector bulb.
Its basic function is to transfer images from projector onto a larger screen to make masses able to view it. Itâs widely used in educational institutions and businesses helping the audience to understand the presented information. Now a days, these are used in home theatres to enable a better view and participation of the viewers.
Two types of projector bulbs are available- Halogen bulbs and metal halide bulbs. The salient features of these are as given:
âHalogen bulbs
âAffordable in terms of money. Costs at USD 75.
âProduces a yellowish tint on displayed image.
âBurn out completely at the end of their life time.
âOperating time is around 70 hours.
âMetal halide bulbs
âCostly with price around USD 300.
âDisplay white tint on displayed image.
âThey give an indication about their burning out by producing a fade out.
âHigh operating time of around 1000 hours.
By sticking on to a few tips, the projector bulb can be given an extended life. Some of them are:
âThe bulbs are not designed for continuous and extensive usage. So, instead of running it the whole day, try running it three to four hours on a stretch.
âPlace your projector in a well ventilated room. This will prevent the bulb from getting overheated.
âTry not to vibrate the projector while it is on. This may result in blowing up or shortening the life of the bulb.
âRestrict human touch to the metal case which protects the bulb. Human hands may contain contaminants which may create problems to the bulb.
âMaintain the bulb at room temperature.
When the service life of projector bulbs are over, they can be replaced easily. The top cover or metal housing has to be removed and the old bulb is to be replaced with a new one.
